June 21st marks the day for the 2014 Downtown Summer Solstice Festival! The festival is one of Anchorage, Alaska’s most exciting summer events, and you wont wanna miss out. It’s guaranteed fun for all ages!
Enjoy kids activities,food vendors and local artists. Watch The Hero Games as local fire, police and military units gather for a friendly competition. They will be charging through obstacle courses, bucket brigades and different relays! Come cheer on your local Heros!! There will also be a Children’s Rainbow Factory, which includes puppet shows, a kayak pool, and a giant sandbox! Also, there will be a Teen Pro Skateboarding Demo, showcasing skateboard skills from professional skateboarders and local team members.
The Festival will have Live Music from several stages throughout the event. Admission for event is completely FREE!! There will be vendor stations that will have items to sell, food, crafts, etc.
What is the Summer Solstice? The summer solstice occurs when the tilt of a planet’s semi-axis, in either the northern or the southern hemisphere, is most inclined toward the star that it orbits. Earth’s maximum axial tilt toward the sun is 23° 26′. It will be the longest “day” of the year, having more sunlight than any other day. On Summer Solstice, Anchorage, Alaska gets 22 hours of functional daylight! So basically, we will be celebrating the first day of Summer!
Following the street party there will be a concert on the bluff above the Alaska Railroad historic depot.
Location of event is on 4th Avenue between C-L Streets in Anchorage, Alaska. Festival will take place from 12:00pm-6:00pm.
